How to write purposeful Content on LinkedIn.
3 actionable steps to avoid making 7 mistakes.
Branding Byte #005:
Writting is the most powerful way to leverage content creation.
Everyone can write, it's free, accessible, scalable, and powerful. I've been writing for the last decade, but 1 year ago I decided to share that passion with the world. Might be one of the best decisions I took.
I've learned a lot since then, and I want to help you speed up your journey by avoiding making the same mistakes I did.
Why you should start writing?
That's a good question my friend, one for which I can only answer from a subjective standpoint. Everyone got stories to tell, everyone got skills to share and content is the best mean to achieve that end.
Writing is the base component to becoming visible without the need for any permission. You can build your own stage and audience, and that's some serious magic.
Get noticed by your dream company, find that amazing job or internship, become a solopreneur, and help people through a one-person business using content as your sales funnel.
The possibilities are endless, unfortunately, the journey does need some serious patience and resilience, and that's why most give up.
That's why I am here, to give you the necessary tools and insights to build your own path.
Not every copy needs to be about sales.
I know that's hard to grasp for many but content creation is a complex strategy, and one of the biggest mistakes is to center everything about you, your offer, or your personal end goal.
But that's not the only reason, here are others that destroy your copy performance:
Poor intention
No call to action
Not hooking your audience
Over the last 3 months, my LinkedIn posts have been read by more than 156 000 people, but those results were not always good, I struggled a lot to find a system that works and the mistakes I was doing.
Bear with me I am sharing with you a 3-step process to avoid doing them yourself.
Step 1: Hook your audience
First thing first, sorry to break it but no, we do not have a short attention span, we’re no less entitled to give our attention than a goldfish. That’s a myth and it needs to be let down. The truth is we have a short hook attention span. We’re able to quickly decide if something is relatable, interesting, and needs our full attention or not.
That’s your role as a content creator to understand what will get your audience willing to spend the necessary time reading your copy. That’s not an easy task I know so here are some tips to help you out.
1/ Research your audience.
Identify who’s your ideal client, and find where they state clearly the challenge they face:
Twitter
Quora
Youtube comments
LinkedIn comments
Once you did it’s time to match those pain points with a path to a desired outcome.
2/ Start with the most important
We’ve always learned to keep the relevant information for the end of our essays, end with a strong touch they said. False, your audience is not paid to read you, they owe you nothing. It’s your job to make them want to read your entire copy.
Have one benefit in mind when writing a post, state it clearly in the first line.
Here are three different hooks you can use:
X ways to become (desired outcome)
(Skill) is the only thing you need to (desired outcome)
How I managed in 3 steps to get (desired outcome)
It’s a pattern:
Include numbers
A desired outcome
Your Ideal client as a persona.
You’ll see how your content performance will skyrocket.
3/ Deliver on your promise.
The hook is the first step, you got their attention, and now you need to keep it, and for that, don’t be a sketchy marketer my friend.
Deliver on your promise.
That’s not hard, write a body(the structure of your post) that follows the hook. If not, you’re just risking your reputation, it’s not worth it.
Step 2: Format and Define Your Content
Content is the key to success when it comes to creating posts that engage and convert. However, many content creators go wrong when it comes to formatting and defining their content.
→ See it as a way to invite your reader into a flow state.
Make your writing seamless and easy to digest.
In that, the visual of your post is key. Formatting your text into lists, sections, and outlines will help you get your message properly.
To ensure your visuals are engaging and effective, consider the following:
Integrates lists in your posts
Add an outline to put a specific structure (this keeps your readers hooked as they want to read the rest)
Break down sentences, it adds emotions.
Add a PS to share your call to action.
Arrows to emphasize a definition.
Cross for things your audience shouldn’t do.
However, you can focus as much as you want on the format if you don’t define clearly your end goal then you’re heading in the wrong direction.
To avoid getting off track, consider the following:
Identify the purpose of your post.
→ Are you trying to educate, inspire, challenge, or empathize?
Think of a creative and unique way to deliver your message.
Make sure your post is easy to follow and that your points are organized in a logical order.
So far so good?
I hope you’re still reading as the last step in the one that will drive conversions.
Step 3: Add a compelling call to action
Your audience is hooked, they read your post, and adhered to your story, now is the time to do something with that.
As long as they’re in that flow state ask for something, you just shared in less than a minute hours of work and experience. Don’t be afraid to take something out of it.
I know we all feel like imposters or believe we’re begging for something, but stop expecting people to know what to do by themselves. Everyone needs a little push.
However, beware of how you use your CTA:
It needs to relate to your post intention:
→ Don’t just ask for comments, make it an extension of your post.
Use actionable and guiding language:
→ For example, words like "Sign up now," "Download here," "Register today," or "Start your free trial"
Incorporate storytelling elements:
→ Write about you, or a character, use quotes, and personalize the approach.
Now, my friend, you got everything you need to write posts that convert impressions into followers and ultimately achieve your desired goal.
If you found that useful, don't hesitate to send me a message and follow me on Linkedin, I am active daily there.
