How to develop your personal branding in 3 actionable steps.
Don't know where to start? This one is for you.
Branding Byte #001:
I’ve been running in circles for a while since I decided to start creating content and developing my Personal Branding. So today I am sharing a simple guide for you to start building yours and not make the same mistakes I did.
Why should you start?
We're rapidly drifting toward a new type of economy in which every transaction is based on trust, experience, and models. You need to differentiate yourself, and the best way to do it is by having a strong personal brand.
Yes, it's a way to improve your finances but it’s also a way to learn more about yourself. You see all those questions that keep running through your mind regarding the direction you're taking in life.
Most vanish the moment you start expressing yourself concisely and honestly. Purpose comes from crystal clarity.
The purpose is found when you let yourself live, create, exchange, and build.
The mantra on which I am building my branding is that I want to help people develop theirs. That's the mission I gave myself for the next 12 months. People decide to follow your journey because they trust you and want to learn more about how you get to achieve results.
I can't guarantee that everyone will succeed. But I will work for it and the only way for me to succeed is to make sure you can too.
What could happen if you start?
Your skills become publicly known and branded uniquely on you thus you develop a competitive advantage over other candidates. A good way to either find a job easily or ask for more money.
You'll become more at peace and happy with your life.
You’ll develop a public audience that wants to learn more about you and your expertise. Build it then you’ll be able to monetize your experience.
Unfortunately, this takes time, consistency, and courage. Failure is part of the process but many people don't accept it.
Trust is hard to build.
But that's not the only reason people fail to build their personal branding.
Here are 4 other reasons this continues to happen.
Impostor syndrome.
Struggle to define your identity.
Inconsistent creation process flow.
Absence of a persistent strategy framework.
Fortunately, I've been through the 4 and I've identified a 3-step process to tackle those issues.
Let's dive in, should we?
Step 1: Take a piece of paper and write every word you define yourself with.
Your brain is full of ideas but you need to see them materialize visually. And nothing would help you more than getting those ideas out there on a piece of paper.
So after reading this Nl take 20 minutes and do the following:
Put your phone in a room far enough that it requires an effort to use it.
Take a piece of paper and a black pen.
Put some Jazz music or whatever makes you vibrate.
Write down every topic you have a glimpse of interest in.
Once you did take 3 topics you feel you can comfortably start creating content about and do it during the next 30 days.
One time 20 minutes investment
Identify 10 topics
Commit every day 20 minutes to write about that topic
This might frighten you at first but then you'll start finding your style and 20 minutes to write 1 post will become 20m to write 5 posts.
Step 2: Identify a daily specific time slot to write.
Commit every day for 20 minutes but not whenever you want. That's a bit tricky and it's the reason why so many people stop after a few days.
Having a free flow and writing only when you have time is one of the worst decision one can make. Writing is a very hard skill that requires you to be in the right environment.
I have two slots, early in the morning and late in the evening, those are the moments my mind is the most creative and makes it easier and more pleasant.
Avoid it at all costs, the free-flow writing strategy might just disgust you from doing it.
Find your time and make sure to commit.
Step 3: Get your content out there every single day.
So far you did the most difficult part of the process, Writing.
Now there's a last step you need to do. Click on the publish button.
You found what defines you,
You committed to writing on those topics
Why not post them?
You may believe that no one will read them but that's a completely false assumption based on your fear.
Oh or maybe you're afraid of what people will think of you?
Don't stay paralyzed in the if zone. You made a choice, continue to commit, no one is going to do it for you. The same people that made fun of your decision will start asking for advice.
I know it I experienced it myself.
Never be afraid to start something because of what others will think of you.
Trust yourself, if you don’t how should others do?
I hope this first edition can bring some nuance and a good starting framework for most of you.
Till next week for a new Branding Byte!
